Speaker Bio
The Brassroots Quintet features members of the larger brass group, Brassroots. Brassroots currently under the musical direction of noted London composer/arranger Jeff Christmas, has been presenting a regular subscription concert series in London since 1986. Brassroots’ unique instrumental mix of four trumpets, a horn, four trombones, a tuba and percussion, give this group the flexibility to demonstrate a wide variety of compositional moods and styles that are more often performed by larger and more traditional groups.
Defiant, irreverent, more clever than her judges, and unfailingly true to her own visions, Joan of Arc returns to share her story with contemporary women. Recounting her experiences with the highest levels of the church, state and military, she unmasks the brutal misogyny behind male institutions.
See Karen Chalmers in The Second Coming of Joan of Arc on October 24 & 25.
Using traditional tools like the Qalam (reed pen) and ink, participants will learn basic techniques and create their own calligraphy-inspired artwork. The workshop also explores how written language can be both a form of communication and visual art. This program is intended for adults only.
